(its ok if you cant help) Design a database of endangered and extinct species. This could be a table or a spreadsheet with the following categories of information: scientific name, classification (e.g., mammal, reptile, amphibian, insect, etc.), habitat (rainforest, ocean, etc.), cause of endangerment or extinction. Use the IUCN Red List for information or the Bagheera website. Include at least 10 species in your database. Save your database file for submission to your teacher. You may select from the following: black lemur black rhino black footed ferret dwarf crocodile elephant Florida manatee giant otter grey whale hyacinth macaw komodo dragon leatherback sea turtle Part 2: Make a bar graph that plots the number of species as a function of cause of endangerment. Part 3: Brainstorm some ways that we can decrease the illegal trade and hunting of endangered wildlife. Write a script for a 60-second commercial to help persuade hunters and fishers to take wildlife responsibly. In your commercial, inform they why illegal hunting or overfishing can harm an ecosystem and tell them about laws that deal with this issue. Submission Requirements: A database A bar graph A script

SmokeyBrown:

The first part of the assignment, the Database, is simple data retrieval and entry. It may be tedious and time-consuming, but it should not be difficult for you. You can start by making a spreadsheet with columns for the data you'll be entering: common name, scientific name, classification , habitat , cause of endangerment or extinction, etc. Then, you'll want to use the resources you've been given to find the information for the (at least) 10 species you choose and fill it into the spreadsheet. That will basically be your Database done.

SmokeyBrown:

For the bar graph, you are plotting "number of species" against "cause of endangerment", which should show which causes of endangerment are the most common among the species you've selected. For example, you might find that 3 species are endangered due to poaching, 2 species are endangered due to deforestation, 2 species are endangered due to pollution, etc... And you'll plot that information on a Bar graph. In Microsoft Excel, there is a built-in function for making a Bar graph based on existing data, so you could use your Database from part 1 to make the Bar graph or you could enter the data manually. I can provide more detailed support if you like once you get to this part as well

SmokeyBrown:

Part 3 will take some creative writing on your part, but the prompt seems clear enough about what you need to do You'll want to research how overhunting and overfishing impacts ecosystems and animal populations and present that information in a script for a 60-second commercial. Since the script only needs to be 60-seconds, I would estimate about a page or less of writing would be enough for that. Again, this part is mainly your own creative writing, but I will try to be around in case you need advice or pointers or revisions
