I don't have very detailed knowledge of weapons, but I know that sniper rifles refer to a class of weapons with very high power and streamlined bullets enabling them to hit targets from a great distance. Usually, these weapons come with a scope attachment in order to enable the user to see their target from a long distance, although I have also heard of the fabled "360 no-scope" that masters of the weapon are capable of (this last part is a joke, please do not take it seriously).
I have also heard that the use of a sniper rifle takes quite a bit of skill and control; since the trajectory of the bullet is over such a wide distance, even minor disturbances could cause a complete miss from the target. Skilled snipers take into account many factors, including gravity, wind conditions, the curvature of the earth, and their own breathing in order to get off a successful shot.
