How many significant figures are in 0.02304 grams ? 3 5 6 4

marlinzzz:

The way I like to think about sig-figs is like, do these digits affect the identity of the number? For example, if you took away the first zero, the number is still .02304 grams, which is equivalent to 0.02304, so that zero cannot be significant. The zero after the decimal, however, would be significant because .02304 is not equal to .2304. The same principle applies to the zero in between the three and four, because .02304 is not equal to .0234. When you count up all of the nonzero digits and significant zeroes, you would get five sig-figs. HTH =)

kekeman:

I think their are 4 sig figs

marlinzzz:

why do you say that?

marlinzzz:

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry I forgot that zeroes behind the decimal are not significant XD. Sorry Ii steered you wrong, four is correct.

kekeman:

All good thank you for the help

marlinzzz:

you're very welcome, glad you didn't listen to me lol
