Mochi:

Tammy is riding in a bike race that goes through a valley and a nearby mountain range. The table give the altitude (in feet abvove sea level) for the five checkpoints in the race. Checkpoint Altitude (feet above sea level) 1 -164 2 1,441 3 -21 4 2,047 5 -102 (a) The top of a hill rises 139 feet above Checkpoint 1. What is the altitude of the top of the hill? (b) How much lower is Checkpoint 1 than Checkpoint 2?

snowflake0531:

for a, the top of a hill is 139 feet above checkpoint 1, so add 139 to the altitude for checkpoint 1 \(-164 + 139\) for b, , how much lower is checkpoint 1 than 2 you want the distance between them \(164+1441\)

Mochi:

I get it now, thank you!
