Ways to increase your smart score (aka leveling up):

The Team Work Tab: To increase your teamwork tab, you should be gaining fans, inviting people to the site, and give testimonials.

The Problem Solving Tab: To increase your problem solving, you should answer other people's questions, and gain medals for giving the best answer. (No direct answers or medal spamming as this can lead to a suspension, warn, or a ban)

And finally, The Engagement Tab: You can level this up by asking questions, logging onto the site to study, and for earning medals for asking questions.
