XxLuckyXx:

You have been asked to make frosted cupcakes to sell at a school fundraiser. Each frosted cupcake contains about 20 grams of sugar. Bake sale coordinators expect 500 people will attend the event. Assume everyone who attends will buy a cupcake; does it make sense to buy sugar in grams, pounds, or tons? Explain.

men:

so basically were dividing here

men:

so tell me what you know so far and ill help

mylesnewman:

no no because each cupcake contains about 20 grams of sugar we'll be multiplying. 500 x 20. grams will be too small of a measurement but tons too big.

men:

i swear i did division when i did this and it gave me the answer

mylesnewman:

the question doesn't need a number answer. it's about what the right measurement is.

FrogGirlEmmy:

whats 500x20, XxLuckyXx?

mylesnewman:

20 grams for each cupcake, 500 people, all going to buy a cupcake. so 20 x 500 will determine the measurement we should use. 1000 grams is about 2.20 pounds, which would be just the right measurement type.

mylesnewman:

we definitely do not need tons or grams.

XxLuckyXx:

It's 2000.

FrogGirlEmmy:

..

mylesnewman:

ah sorry im looking at a spreadsheet

XxLuckyXx:

So it's pounds?

mylesnewman:

yes

XxLuckyXx:

Alrighty then, thank you very much!
