I've been writing music notes lately, and that kind of thing, but I forgot what a clef is. What are the clefs?

clefs are symbols at the beginning that show you how to interpret the notes the four main ones are: treble, bass, alto, tenor. they are designed for different instruments/voice ranges. for example, melodies are typically in treble clef. notice how the treble clef is "centered" on the second bar from the bottom. that note is G, which is why the treble clef is also called the G clef. you can read more about the other clefs here: https://makingmusicmag.com/explanation-clefs-treble-bass-alto-tenor/
