there is a ball of uranium that sends off xrays when the shield around it is destroyed. it is heated and the xrays turn the foam around it into plasma. underneath it is a plutonium core surrounded by primer and uranium. the plasma crushes the uranium and plutonium and the primer. when the spark plug is crushed (oh yea thers a spark plug) everything ignites and a massive chemical reaction and heat production. nuclear fusion just happened. and then BOOOM. i was in class and had to turn it off but this is how they work
