Astrid1:

Describe a situation that models a linear pattern and then describe a situation that models a nonlinear pattern. Do not state which situation is linear and which is nonlinear. Your classmates will need to determine which is which and then write a function that models the linear situation. Your classmates will also need to write 1 ordered pair that is a solution to the linear function and explain its meaning in the context of the situation.

Astrid1:

Lmao, you're suposed to not state whether or not its linear or nonlinear. And to describe them, basically make an equation with an explanation.

marlinzzz:

hey astrid, so for ur question a linear situation would look like: "Lucas is collecting pennies. He already has sixteen pennies, and every day, he finds three new pennies to add to his collection." The equation for that would be y=3x+16 And then a nonlinear one would be, "As a rock falls from a cliff, it gains 10 meters per second of velocity every second it falls. It falls for 4 seconds." The equation for that is the free fall equation, which you can plug those values into: \[h=1/2 (10)(4)^2\]
