6x+8y=0 -7x-8y=8 "system of equations-elimination"

MusicGeek:

Solving equations with elimination is so fun. I love doing it. So, you see that in 6x+8y=0 there is a positive 8 and in -7x-8y=8 there is a negative 8. Those 2 cancel out. So now you have to add the equations and you won't have a y value yet. You would get -1=8. And so x=-8. Then you would just plug -8 in for x on one of the equations. I would plug it into the bottom equation and get -7(-8)-8y=8. That would give you -56-8y=8. Add 56 to both sides and you would have 64. Then you would want to get y alone so you would divide both sides by -8 and get -8. So your answer would be (-8,-8).
