Ok so, it isn't correct because you can't subtract 8x from 56. Basically to get rid of the 8, you divide 56 by 8.

Step 1 is correct. But the other 2 steps should look something like this: 8x=56 --- --- 8 8

Sailor:

For part 2, we know that 56 can be divided by 8, but is there anything else that could go into the equation to make it true?
