My Math problem is hard
\[-5x = 20 \times -1/5\]
Is this Solving Two-Step Equations?
1st: Find the variable (The letter) 2nd: Find the Coefficient 3rd: Make the Variable ONE x instead of more 4th: If it is multiplying or dividing negative numbers you want to reverse the sign 5th: Graph your answer 6th: Check your answer + Properties: Add the number that shows like for ex: 12x +5 blah 678 The 5 you would change into subtraction and subtract that number from both sides of 5 and 678 - Properties: Subtract the number that shows like for ex: 12x -5 blah 678 The 5 you would change into addition and add that number from both sides of 5 and 678
Multiplying and Dividing: Positive number will remain true, negative number will change the sign (Like for ex: Greater than or Less Than) BUT the answer will still be true
so i got this as my answer
\[\frac{ 39 }{ 5 } \]
-1/5 X -5x= -1/5 X 39
but the answer is negative
1 Simplify — 5 1 0 - (— • (5x - 20)) 5 3.1 5x - 20 = 5 • (x - 4) 0 - (x - 4)= 4 - x This is what I got.
Top is 1/5 not 1 _ 5
thanks for your help rylee88
You're Very Welcome!
Huh? I am not sure what you did but its not too complicated \(-5x = 20 \times -\dfrac15\) \(20 \times -\dfrac15\) can we rewritten as \(-\dfrac{20}{5}\) which is just -4 Then you have \(-5x=-4\) You multiply by its inverse or divide by the coefficient \(x=\dfrac45\) You do not need to pay attention to sign change because it is not an inequality. Only make sure you know how to multiply/divide by negatives
