I have absolutely no idea how to do this.

Have you ever heard of the Pythagorean theorem? |dw:1636467022362:dw|

Yes, I can do some problems, but most I have trouble with.

Tranquility:

c is the hypotenuse. It's the largest side of the triangle which is opposite the 90 degree angle The other two sides are the legs of the triangle

Speccy:

so, 15x15=225 and 17x17=289 so 514

Tranquility:

You don't add those numbers. Look at the triangle in your question and the triangle I drew. Match the numbers with the letters

Speccy:

Your triangle is different from mine tho.

Speccy:

OHHHHHHHhh

Speccy:

So I need to b squared plus c squared and divide by 2?

Tranquility:

no

Tranquility:

You do c squared minus b squared and that will give you a squared After that, you take the square root of that to find a

Speccy:

Okay, sooooooo- 64x64=4096?

Tranquility:

where did you get 64 from?

Speccy:

c squared minus b squared equals 64

Speccy:

I got it wrong,

Tranquility:

OHHHH

Speccy:

New image.

Tranquility:

so now you know a^2 = 64 To find a, you have to take the square root of 64

Tranquility:

Basically what number multiplied by itself gives you 64? If you don't know, you can use a calculator https://www.google.com/search?q=sqrt(64)

Speccy:

OHHH I forgot square root is mot multiplied by itself.

Speccy:

thank you.

Tranquility:

No problem!
