One example could be if someone were to do repairs on the top of a building they would need to know the lengths of the floor and building in order to get a long enough latter (only example, there are many others out there as well that are alike) look for examples in construction they have many where Pythagorean Theorem is used.

you could try a google search of uses of Pythagorean theorem in construction.
