The New Friend Cassie and Freddie had been best friends since they could crawl, and they never did anything without each other. Cassie, however, had fallen terribly ill and was bedridden the entire summer. And so, with no one to spend time with, Freddie had decided to go to summer camp. But now the summer was almost over, and Cassie had completely recovered. She looked forward to spending what little remained of summer vacation with her best friend who was about to return any minute. When he finally arrived, Cassie was surprised to see that Freddie was not alone; there was another boy in the backseat of the car with him. When Freddie saw Cassie, he shot out of the car and ran to greet her, but Cassie's eyes were still on the new boy. "Freddie, look at you! I feel you've grown a foot taller," Cassie remarked, hugging her best friend. "Who is the new kid?" "That's Rory. We met at summer camp and we ended up having the best time, so I invited him to spend the rest of the summer here with me. You will love him Cass, he is the coolest guy I've ever met," Freddie said and dragged Cassie to meet Rory. Coolest guy he's ever met, Cassie thought irritably. She didn't like the idea that Freddie had already become close to someone else over such a short span of time. Rory seemed like a perfectly pleasant boy, who cracked witty jokes and had an animated spirit. But Cassie could only think about how Rory had stolen her best friend away from her and could not bring herself to like him. A few days passed by, and seeing Freddie and Rory have such a great time together, Cassie decided to stay by herself at home rather than join them. However, one day, there was a knock on her door, and Cassie was surprised to see that it was Rory. "Freddie went shopping with his parents today, and since I was bored at home, I thought I would hang out with you. Freddie told me you have the best collection of comic books and a bunch of the best sci-fi movies. That's my favorite genre! Can we watch some together?" Rory asked. Cassie was surprised, but she invited Rory in. They watched a couple of sci-fi movies together and also discussed their favorite characters from comic books. Cassie ended up having the best time, and she felt ashamed for judging Rory too soon. She realized that if she gave Rory a chance, they could be as close as she and Freddie were. 10 How does the point of view affect the plot of the story?
