You would multiply the WHOLE equation by a number to cancel out either the y or x value.

for substitution you have to make one of the equations into y=mx+b form and substitute what you get for y in the other equation

so you would multiply the top equation by -4 and bottom equation by -4 so the y-value for the top would be -16y and the bottom y-value would be 16y
