i need help on math

jassi:

IhelpUuHELPme:

In this equation, we are trying to find the variable x The first step is to isolate the variable on one side so what you would do is inverse operations

IhelpUuHELPme:

First you would subtract 4 on both sides as what you do on one side, you do on the other

IhelpUuHELPme:

Doing so, 4 and 4 cancel out and subtracting from a negative is adding to it while the sign stays the same |dw:1638670158976:dw|

IhelpUuHELPme:

SO far, do you understand?

jassi:

yes i do and tysm

IhelpUuHELPme:

welc Next as you can see, x still isn't by itself, so we need to remove the number 3 3x is the operation of multiplication, meaning you would divide 3 on both sides 3 and 3 cancel out and -15 divided by 3 equals -5 as the operation of dividing or multiplying a negative leaves the sign the same |dw:1638670345963:dw|

jassi:

ok, thx again for helping me, is there anything else for that

IhelpUuHELPme:

And if you'd like to check your work, you can plug in -5 to where x is |dw:1638670484494:dw| When you add a positive to a negative, you are basically adding it but keeping the sign the same if the number which you are adding isnt higher

IhelpUuHELPme:

|dw:1638670559046:dw| sorry i meant -11*

jassi:

its okay, if may i ask is this right?

Nothing else based on this equation no xd 1 step equations are two simple steps Inverse operations Isolate x

Yes, it is right xd As I have said, you may check your work by plugging in the value of x to where x is in the equation

ok and if this is right

IhelpUuHELPme:

Ah ic, create another post for the image you just posted

jassi:

this one

jassi:

ok thx i just wanted to make sure if i was right

IhelpUuHELPme:

You are right with the first one as the white rectangles equals x and there are 6 of them

IhelpUuHELPme:

Correct with the second one as the black rectangles equal -x and there are 4 of them

IhelpUuHELPme:

Correct with the 3rd one as the white rectangle equals x and there is 1 of them(you dont have to put 1 with the x as the variable x without an exponent or a number higher than 1 equals to 1)and there are 3 black boxes which equal to -3

IhelpUuHELPme:

COrrect with the 4th one as the wwhite rectangles equal to x and there are 5 of them with 1 black box which is negative

IhelpUuHELPme:

You are WRONG with the 5th one because there are no rectangles to represent x It would just be -11

IhelpUuHELPme:

Wrong with the 6th one because the boxes represent whole numbers, so it would just be 9 there is no rectangle to represent the variable x

IhelpUuHELPme:

7th one is correct(you dont have to put 1 with the x as the variable x without an exponent or a number higher than 1 equals to 1) It is -1x + 7

IhelpUuHELPme:

Last one is 4x + 5 because there are 4 white rectangles and 5 white boxes

IhelpUuHELPme:

The legend is telling you that the white rectangles represent positive x, the black rectangles represent negative x, the white boxes represent a positive whole number, and the black boxes represent a negative whole number

IhelpUuHELPme:

When you write 1x, it just means that any value multiplied by 1 is always equal to itself

IhelpUuHELPme:

@jassi

jassi:

im very sorry for the late response, and yes i will change the answer and thx sm for the help
