Devon, Nikolai, and Patricia had exhausted all the topics they could think of. At first, the boys had thought Patricia was becoming too emotional by telling stories of her childhood. Eventually, Devon and Nikolai shared their stories as well. Then, the three of them had started talking about their dreams and goals in life. There was nothing more interesting to do while their cell phone batteries had died, and there was no light around them.
“Somebody has to start wondering where we are at some point,” Patricia spoke, forcing her friends to think about their situation again. “I know it's a weekend, but a janitor or someone will be in the building, right?”
“Yeah, I am not worried,” Nikolai replied. “Well, not until one of us has to use the restroom or eat.”
“Yeah, right!” Devon expressed his frustration. “Someone will pass by this office building on a Saturday or a Sunday and rescue us. Why didn’t you guys listen to me when I said let’s take the stairs and not the elevator? A little exercise could have helped us a lot!”
“Hush,” Patricia asked her friend to keep it low and started listening to something intently. “I think I hear footsteps! Boys, start banging on the door, and I will scream my lungs out till they hear us!”
