Well what causes bruises is when you hurt yourself. How the body heals it is it takes out the damaged or dead cells and replaces them with new ones and those new ones will heal your bruises.

A contusion or a bruise is caused when capillaries are damaged, blood vessels leak and are kept under the skin, thats what causes the color, and thats why it hurts if you touch it. After a while the body absorbs the blood again and it slowly fades away
