Art: A starter kit (with pictures)
(Specifically in this tutorial I will focus on the drawing/sketching process)
Art is a really varied medium. Do you want to do realism? Maybe you want to try a cartoon style. How to find your style? What are some techniques you would like? All of these questions will be answered in this tutorial.

First, we must find a style. One thing to note with art is that things take time. It took about 4 years for me to find my style! Now, a way to find your way of art is to test out things. Keep an open mind while doing this, patience is key. Trying out different styles, looking at other pieces, and tracing will help you figure it out. Tracing has a stigma around it, but as long as you don’t pass the artwork off as your own it’s a very beneficial method! For example, if it’s something difficult like a shoe, you can trace it so you can figure out how a shoe is made.

Secondly, we must find out what you want to sketch. For example, you might want to look into still life and realism first. But, lots of people resort to a cartoon style! But learning how the body is built before drawing this way is very important. Like the muscles, bone structure, etc. If you don’t.. Well it might look a little like this.
While this drawing is very nice looking, the anatomy is a little off from a reference that looks like this.
This is why it’s important to use references in your arts and portraits, otherwise you get a result like this. Of course, if you like a style like this you can continue to tweak this style. But why this is important to learn, even if you don’t want to pursue a realism technique, is because you get results like this anime here.
That is why it’s important to study a style, even if it’s not the one you quite want to try.

Once you’ve figured out a style and medium you want, I’d say to just keep practicing and working on your art skills! I know when people ask how to start art, they say “Just practice!”, but it really makes a difference. If you’re in it for the long run, results will come I promise!
Vocabulary Reference: In the visual arts, using reference is the practice of discovering information in a photo and/or real-world object, person, or location. This information is used to give the artist better understanding of their subject and create a stronger sense of believability in the art that is being created. Anatomy: Anatomy is the branch of biology concerned with the study of the structure of organisms and their parts. Anatomy is a branch of natural science which deals with the structural organization of living things. It is an old science, having its beginnings in prehistoric times.
