ILOVESPAGHETTI:

-2n-16=4n+8 HELP

YRJ8498:

Add 16 to both sides of the equation

Rylee88:

This looks like a Two-Step equation, correct?

chrisdjackson:

Solving for "n". Add 16 to both sides making it +24 then make "n" be by itself, then after all that, divide and the answer is n= -4

YRJ8498:

so it would be −2𝑛−16+1=4𝑛+8+16

Sailor:

First off you have to add 2 to both sides because there is a -2n

Rylee88:

If this IS two-step equation, divide the 24 that Chris said and divide is by -2n n=1

ILOVESPAGHETTI:

Do I add 2 or 16?

16

Sailor:

Well if you add 2 you'd end up getting -4 as the answer

if you add 16 you get -4 as answer too

Sailor:

its a 2 step equation then

YRJ8498:

let me show you what I mean

YRJ8498:

Add 16 to both sides of the equation so it would be −2𝑛−16+1=4𝑛+8+16

YRJ8498:

so then the equation turns to this −2𝑛=4𝑛+8+16 -2n=4n+24 −2𝑛=4𝑛+24

YRJ8498:

then subtract 4n from bothsides of equation

YRJ8498:

−2𝑛−4𝑛=4𝑛+24−4𝑛

YRJ8498:

Combine like terms −2𝑛−4𝑛=4𝑛+24−4𝑛=4𝑛+24-4𝑛 −6𝑛=4𝑛+24−4 𝑛

YRJ8498:

and again −6𝑛=4𝑛+24−4𝑛 to get −6𝑛=24

YRJ8498:

divide both sides -6𝑛/−6 = 24/−6

YRJ8498:

𝑛= 24/−6 then 𝑛=-4

thats not right

Rylee88:

It is, even my teacher helped lmao

Sailor:

uh... theres a -2n, not a -2 e.e

Dang, where I messed up at

Rylee88:

Well, I'd think it is the same answer.

YRJ8498:

I thought I got it right

Corrections:

You partially got it right, yes. Next time, try focusing on explaining your answer just a tad bit more. I personally think rylee was the most accurate with her responce.

Rylee88:

Thank you.

YRJ8498:

ok thx

tysm.

Rylee88:

You're welcome, I made sure it was right with my math teacher she said yes. She helped me too

Tutorial:

Add 2n to both sides −16=4n+8+2n Simplify 4n + 8 + 2n to 6n + 8 −16=6n+8 Subtract 8 from both sides −16−8=6n Subtract -16 - 8 to -24 −24=6n Divide both sides by 6 -24 / 6 = n Simplify 24 / 6 to 4 −4=n Switch sides n=−4
