Okay I just read some of the actual text and story,

So basically the author reveals the conflict and the resolution of the barber through his internal thoughts. In his job he is loyal but not to his belief. The character Torres know the information to go to the barber and get his shave. Now if you read the text he is trying or wants to know if the barber would kill him.

This allows the reader to know the thoughts and emotions of an actual character.
