How do you write a likable character? I'm writing this character named mason and I want him to be funny and quick witted, any lines or tips? Thanks!
Good question. If you want a likeable character, make sure you portray your character as a hero. Maybe not as the main character, but when he's present in the current situation, make sure he gives good ideas, but no entire solutions. He's sort of the narrator within the story. Get it?
Ever watch MTV's Teen Wolf? In that show there was a main character, kind of a funny sidekick by the name of Stiles Stilinski. That is how you write a likeable character. Have him be a smart alec, provide comedy relief, but also have him be intelligent. In fact, the main character can handle the big challenges but the sidekick could be the one to put all the pieces together in the background and direct the main character on what he needs to do next.
Also, for a likable character, people like characters with striking unique traits. At the same time people like relatable characters. Finding that right mixture of being unique yet relatable is a key thing in making your characters likable. And just like TheWraith2021 stated, he could be the sidekick that advises the main character what to do whilst building the pieces together. I hope this helped :)
