bruhgetrekt:

The concepts will consist of the words "nation" and "state" (Political geography defined)

chrisdjackson:

NATION: A group of people who thinks of themselves as sharing a language, religion, history, or ethnicity. Without any defined government or borders. STATE: The territory is politically organized, populated permanently, administered by a government and recognised internationally. NATION STATE: Area in which both nations and states are politically organized.

bruhgetrekt:

So a nation-state would be a nation AND a state?

YRJ8498:

The nation state is a political unit where the state and nation are congruent. Since a country does not have to be dominated by a particular ethnic group, it's a more precise term than "country".

bruhgetrekt:

Understood so for the examples that I need to give, would southern Africa be considered a nation?

Questionnare:

That is a good example. South Africa is its own country/nation.

bruhgetrekt:

Would northern Africa also be considered a nation?

Questionnare:

No. That is a region. A region is just an area where certain countries are.

bruhgetrekt:

If my geography is correct, I think I see Islam. That'd be a state right?

Questionnare:

No. That is a religion/faith-based group.

chrisdjackson:

A "Nation-State" is a political rule, based on its NATION and STATE. Or A nation state is a political unit based on where the NATION and STATE are consistent.

Questionnare:

An example of a state is like Vatican City. It is sorta a country, but it is mainly just surrounded by Italy.

bruhgetrekt:

I think I get it now. Thank you people :]
