The author is trying to make a cliff hanger. In a movie when the actor is in trouble or something big is about to happen and they end the episode. It is the same in the book. In the book they will make something happen to make you think "Oh no I need to read more." Its kinda like that.

Also there is going to be a bad guy in the book to mess with the main person to make them confused or lost. So then in the book the bad guy's plan will keep going with the main character. Until it reaches the climax which then the main character will realize whats happening and fight back against the bad guy. A good book for this is the boxcar children.


There is also a type of book where there could be a lot of drama and then the main character/characters would keep getting in trouble or arguing and so forth. Its kinda like in a book in the baby sisters books. In that book they will have a thing they have to do then they will run into a problem then have so much drama.


In a action book it would be if the main character's best family or friend person died. Then the main character would be mad and want to know who is the bad guy is. That would be something that would keep you interested.
