Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow: Darjeeling was established by the British in the 1800s, and has since been a popular tourist destination. Situated at a height of 2,123 m and surrounded by tea plantations all around, it is a beautiful town with magnificent views of the eastern Himalayas, especially Kanchenjunga, as well as a breath-taking view down the valleys to the rivers. Darjeeling also has a special attraction: the Toy Train', a small train that winds its way up the steep mountains from New Jalpaiguri to the hill station. The formal name of this Toy Train is The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway'. This Toy Train is one of the most famous narrow-gauge trains- so called because the rail tracks are only two feet wide-in the world. In 1999, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee included the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway as part of the Mountain Railways of India World Heritage site. The 88-kilometre-long ride begins at New Jalpaiguri, a busy railway station in the plains. After a short halt, the train departs from the Siliguri station and crosses the bridge over the Mahananda River which flows from the Himalayan foothills. When the train begins to climb at Sukna, the blue-green mountains of the foothills of the Himalayas gradually start becoming visible. The train gains elevation quickly, passing through tea gardens and forests of teak and sal. When the Toy Train reaches Gayabari (1,040 m) you can get a wonderful view of the further ranges, and the wooded valleys. Further up the line, after taking a sharp turn around Agony Point-a tight looping track-the train arrives at Kurseong (1,485 m), a thriving little hill station, with magnificent views of the Himalayas. The train passes through Ghum, which, at 2.260 m. is the highest railway station in India. From there it descends towards Darjeeling. Travellers have a glorious view of Darjeeling town with Kanchenjunga and other Himalayan peaks forming the backdrop. 1. How is the journey to Darjeeling by rail different from that in the plains 2. What are the major attractions of Darjeeling
