Alight so the story you showed discusses some girls who got kidnapped by pirates. And they were making a plan to escape by lighting a fire that alerted other people to help them. 
Now, to help you answer your question, why would you have to go through all that if the pirates let you go? In other words, no they did not let them go. That should help you answer your question. Also, I speak Spanish so I’m 100% sure about it.
