Should individual freedoms be sacrificed in the name of national security?

In my opinion, no, they should not. I generally have a healthy distrust of government, especially since power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Giving up individual freedoms for something the government deems as "national security" would give them more power than they should have. On top of that, they can make the people do essentially whatever they wanted and just throw out the excuse that it's for national security, and no one would or could object to it because they gave away their rights.
