There are 1,203 athletes at Ohio State university. 629 are male and 574 are female. $109 million are put into athletic funds. If you paid all of the student athletes, how much money would the college have left for things they need? There have been past debates on whether or not College athletes should be paid or not. No, college athletes should not be paid to play because If they paid every athlete they would not have enough money for things they need in the college.


In order to see why College athletes should not be paid we have to look at the other side of the debate. College athletes should be paid to play, because the money they get from their jobs is not enough. The College athletes do all the training to get better in hopes of getting to the pros. when they get into the pros then they get paid for all the training and work they did in college. In the text it states, “"The bottom line is that players are misled into thinking that their labor will fully pay their way through school, and they are definitely earning much less than their fair market value," he said.” This is saying that the athletes thought their hard work could pay for everything in school and their life but it can’t.
