candyplays321:

etting: The Saloon in Rolling Ridge. CURTAIN OPENS: There are tables and chairs around the room, and a bar stage left. The Mayor and Atchison sit at a table downstage, dressed in suit coats, string ties, pants and boots. People sit at the tables, playing cards or drinking, while Felicity, dressed as a saloon girl makes the rounds, taking orders and delivering drinks on a tray. A bartender is behind the bar. The men are in pants, shirts, boots, and some with cowboy hats. Felicity wears a low-cut, short outfit. Honky Tonk music plays in the background. The Lone Stranger and Pronto enter stage right, talking, and move to center stage. Cue Card Girl holds sign, and Piano player plays. Lone Stranger: The man at the stable said the Mayor is here in the saloon. We really need to talk to him. Pronto: There’s that music again! Yes, and all these adventures have made me very thirsty. Lone Stranger: Let’s get a drink and talk to the Mayor at the same time. Then I want to hurry to see Felicity. 1 Felicity: He is over there talking to some railroad bigwig. Pronto: It looks like the decision to reroute the railroad may already be made. Lone Stranger: Felicity, quit this job and go change your clothes while we talk to them. Then we will take you home. Felicity exits stage left, while Lone Stranger and Pronto move to the Mayor’s table. Lone Stranger: Good afternoon, Mr. Mayor, and I assume you are Mr. Atchison. Mr. Atchison: Yes, I am, and who are you…and the Indian. Pronto: Here we go again. It’s Native American!! Mayor: This is the Lone Stranger and Pronto. I’ll vouch for them. Please sit down. Bartender, a drink for my two friends, please. Lone Stranger and Pronto sit. Bartender: What will it be, Gents? Pronto: I’ll have sarsaparilla. Lone Stranger: I’ll have milk. We’re on duty. 4 Felicity is waiting on a table near them and responds when she hears her name. Cue card girl with A-W-W-W sign, and Piano player plays. Felicity: Yes, you called my name?...Oh, Lone Stranger… and Pronto…It’s you! Pronto: Uh Oh! Lone Stranger: Felicity, what are you doing here? And why are you wearing that skimpy dress? Felicity: Oh, Lone Stranger, I am so embarrassed! Daddy broke his leg and can’t work, and I am trying to run the ranch, but it’s very hard work, and then Grady McClure asked me to marry him and said he would run the ranch, but I told him I couldn’t marry him because you are my boyfriend and only true love, and so he got really mad and said the mortgage is due, and if we do not pay in one week, he will foreclose on the ranch, and we have no money, and so I am working here to get some money to pay the mortgage…Phew!...Would you like a drink?

candyplays321:

Lone Stranger: Felicity, how awful for you! I am here now, and I will help you with the ranch and the mortgage, and Grady McClure! Cue Card Girl and Piano player BOO. Pronto: Grady McClure again! Cue Card Girl and Piano player start BOO again, but Lone Stranger stops them in the middle. Lone Stranger: Enough with the music already! Felicity, Grady McClure is robbing stagecoaches and banks, and ambushing the railroad to get the owner to move the railroad to Rolling Ridge instead of Rock Creek. Felicity: Why would he do that? Lone Stranger: He wants to get rich selling land to the railroad. I bet that is why he wants your ranch—so he can sell it to the railroad, too. Felicity: Oh no! Daddy will die if we lose the ranch! Lone Stranger: Felicity, someone said the Mayor is here. Where is he? We must talk to him and warn him about Grady McClure. 3 Mayor: That dirty varmint! What can we do to stop him? Lone Stranger: Well, gentlemen, Pronto and I have a plan. They all lean in closer to each other and talk in a loud whisper. Lone Stranger: First, I will pay off the mortgage on my girlfriend’s ranch. That way he will stop bothering her and her father, and she will be safe. Then we set a trap for McClure and his men. Mr. Atchison: How do we do that? Lone Stranger: Well… CURTAIN CLOSES. 6 Felicity: He is over there talking to some railroad bigwig.

Bartender: Coming right up. The Bartender pours the drinks and brings them to the two men, Mayor: We were just discussing the new railroad. Mr. Atchison is thinking of having it go through Rolling Ridge instead of Rock Creek because of some problems he is having. Lone Stranger: We know about your problems. On the way here, we helped stop a stagecoach robbery, a bank robbery, and a band of outlaws attacking the railroad site. Mr. Atchison: Oh no! They didn’t get the payroll, did they? All these problems are why I want to move the railroad here. Pronto: The payroll is safe, and we did capture one outlaw. A few threats and he sang like a bird! Lone Stranger: The outlaw told us that that villain, Grady McClure, is behind all these attacks. He wants the railroad to come through Rolling Ridge so that he can get rich selling his land to you, Mr. Atchison. He even threatened to foreclose on my girlfriend’s ranch. 5 8 Mayor: That dirty varmint!

For 1: at the very end, Lone Ranger talks about a plan…could this possibly be what he decides to do? His loan sounds a lot like what he’s going to do about a problem! For 2: choose something that happens within this story and restate it in your own words in 2-4 sentences. Just tell the teacher what happened without writing anything from the story word for word :) For 3: for whatever thing you just described, how does it help stop something bad that is happening in the story? For 4: for whatever thing you described in 2, how does it show change or personal growth in the Lone Ranger? For example, he may seem more motivated for change or taking different actions based on what Felicity tells him if you chose to talk about the part where he talks to Felicity about her situation

KPalm:

Plan* not “his loan” sorry, typo
