Jaynater:

As of late, I've had increasing impulsivity to create, tinker, and learn. I've been spending increased time on applications like Blender, or I've been messing around with guitar more. I've been thinking about what to write for my stories, or I'm thinking about how to solve problems in the projects I'm working on with a new riff or weight-paint checking a model in my sleep. I've noticed that despite me previously thinking I wasn't invested in what I do, I've suddenly built my life around what I like to do. This has become a problem for me as of late because academics don't allow me to have the liberty of time to do these projects. I become impulsive and decide to do what I do best over what I know I must do. The question I have here is, what are some tips to focus instead on academics at the moment over my projects?

Ferrari:

Remember that you have to do well in your academics/grades to pass. Try to relate your distractions to your academics/studying/assignments/etc. Maybe enroll in a Guitar or Music class to freshen your mind off of the other subjects (math, language arts, y'know).

Jaynater:

So, would it be a good idea to somehow become impulsive over my academics as well? I just can't imagine myself building around them because there is, simply put, a lot to do. Additionally, I am in an Intro to Band class, where I opted for percussion because they don't allow stringed instruments. I find that class enjoyable, and it is one of the only classes I really find myself wanting to do.

Ferrari:

Try making your own problems (school problems/practice) that relate to what you like. Example: I like basketball, so I make problems like this. Michael Jordan had 6 NBA Championship rings. How many does he need to get to Bill Russell's amount? (Russell had 11 championship rings)

Also take a break once in awhile, it can help you refocus your brain/mind to work better. You can try planing and then taking some time to cope if you have that class or marching band or if you are in high school. Other thing like meditating and yoga could help you refocus also but I wouldn’t recommend doing yoga in school or your classroom.

Jaynater:

These are some pretty solid suggestions, relating what I like to what I need to do so I'm able to think and learn in a way that interests me. And, yes, I should take breaks more often. If anything, that's probably one of the main reasons I get distracted. It's because I get exhausted from what I'm doing and go do something else. 20-minute breaks are likely something I should take more often.

xxDeppressionxx:

Sounds good.
