Here is the 2nd amendment:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Sherixn:

In my opinion, the 2nd amendment is there to protect us from possible violence from others. I think it is important to bear arms because without them we would not be able to protect our loved ones, but I also think it could be used in the wrong ways, for example, many people used arms to commit crimes.

The 2nd amendment was originally meant to promote peace within nations so no one felt threatened by others. This amendment was meant for you to protect yourself from others and keep you and others safe. With this being said, I think it is important for people to bear arms with the right training and safety. I think they should know how to use the weapon and how to keep it in a safe place. Some people take this amendment to an extreme, some may argue that automatic weapons should not be allowed to be in homes or in the hands of those not in war. I personally agree. There is no reason why a homeowner or someone at all should need a fully automatic weapon to keep themselves or others safe. There are plenty of no-automatic weapons or handguns that can be used in place of something like a automatic weapon.
In conclusion to my long paragraph that most likely wasn't needed, to bear arms can be a great thing for protection, safety among other things. When people abuse the power of this amendment, it is questionable whether we need it at all. We need to make sure people who do bear arms have the correct safety and training to be using the weapon and make sure they do not put themselves or those they love in danger.
