How did a surplus of crops lead to a more complex society?

Vocaloid:

when food is limited/scarce, then pretty much everyone in a society has to gather/produce food. when food is in surplus, then some people can be free to work in other sectors. that way, a society can develop items, technologies, etc. that aren't directly related to food production. here's a reference where you can read more about how the growth of agriculture fuels more complex societies: https://www.khanacademy.org/humanities/world-history/world-history-beginnings/birth-agriculture-neolithic-revolution/a/why-did-human-societies-get-more-complex
