Obviously, the author has a certain point, and wants you to believe what he believes. Imagine that he wants to show you the effects of global warming and on-purpose habitat loss (farming, chopping trees, illegal animal kidnapping/smuggling, etc). He believes that global warming is a real thing and wants you to believe his side.
