always a good idea to sketch the situation |dw:1665014359040:dw| we have a right triangle with hypotenuse 10 and leg 4. to find the length of the pole (the other leg) we can use the pythagorean theorem. a^2 + b^2 = c^2 plug in a = 4 (one of the legs) and c = 10 (the hypotenuse) and solve for b (the other leg of the triangle)
