I love the book "The Chain" by Adrian McKinty

The book starts off as a girl going to school, waiting for her bus at her bus stop, when waiting she sees a car roll up on her and she ends up getting kidnapped. On the highway, the car of the kidnappers gets pulled over. When the officer approaches the window, the driver shoots the cop and flees the scene.

The entire book is paying a randsom leaves your child un-harmed, then you need to kidnap another child and make that family pay a randsom to "The Chain", after done, you can get your child back.
