Do you have any thoughts after listening to the song?
The question is asking who you think won/had the better argument, so you use your own opinion to help form your essay.
For part A, the song states clearly in the first line that the debate is about whether the United States should get involved with the French Revolution between France and England. Jefferson supports the U.S. backing France, whereas Hamilton does not.
Jefferson’s main arguments: France helped the U.S. in the Revolutionary War, so we should help them. The U.S stands for freedom/liberty, so we should help France fight for these ideals.
Hamilton’s main arguments: The U.S just finished fighting their own revolutionary war and are not in a good state to be involved with other countries’ affairs. The treaty between King Louis is no longer valid now that he’s dead so the U.S. is no longer obligated to help France.
Which person do you think has the stronger arguments and why?
