Many scholars believe that modern-day rap is an extension of the oral tradition of theAfrican-American culture. Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not? Do raps containthe same characteristics of slave songs or folktale? If so, which ones? Does modern rapserve the same purpose as slave songs or spirituals? Explain

If this is a QnA that you need to do with another person, then here's my response (but if they're asking for YOUR (OP) opinion, then I don't know how to help--here's my response:

I disagree because usually, African-American culture hasn't ever rapped (of my knowledge)--rather, they make music and chants, usually with odd instruments, and they just have a grand old time...however, I've never once heard of African-American's rapping due to "culture". Old African-American songs are a lot of the time about praise, in my opinion--especially during slave times. They praise in song a lot, while raps as of late are the complete opposite--involving topics of suggestive mannerism, substance abuse, illegal activity, and more.
I don't believe that they're the same as of how they once were, because of how they're made and sang--back then, they sang and chanted over things such as celebrations, worship, etc...but I have yet to see a genre of rappers doing that. I'd also like to add that white folk also rap, and I don't see why they would rap for another ethnicity's culture.

I could go further into it, but that's just my main thoughts about it (no, i'm not religious or a person of color, this is just based off of what i've been told and what I know--besides that, I don't know much about their culture.
