Personally, going off of Mark's idea with the apples, I'd do something like:
Joe buys 4 apples from the store every day. His mother gave him 12 when he got home. Later on, Joe counts his apples and finds that he has 64 apples in total. How many days did Joe go to the grocery store?
Kenin:
so it would be something like 4x + 12 = 64?
