When a mutation occurs in the genetic code of the offspring. a gene can be caused to to the eggs and sperm cells multiplying, causing an oversight in the coding or it can be inherited from the parents genes. a gene doesn't work if both parents have a "broken" portion of genes, causing illnesses, you'd have to elaborate probably, cause i simplified it.
