Discuss the idea of love during the renaissance based on the selections you read so far in this unit. Prepare for the discussion by briefly reviewing the poems by Wyatt, Spenser, Marlowe, Raleigh, Shakespeare, and Donne that you read throughout the unit. Then use these questions as a starting point for the discussion: How does their idea of love compare? What does each poem tell you about the idea of love in general during the renaissance?

MidniteSunny:

Well, not much for us to say. Read the poems over again, all of them. While you read, just have both of the questions in mind. Discussions include other people, but if you're doing it alone, then just respond in a well developed paragraph and that should be enough. Remember, it's telling you to compare and contrast. According to Encyclopedia.com, "During the Renaissance, Europeans saw love and marriage as two important, but very different, parts of life. Poets described love as an overpowering force, both spiritual and sexual." Maybe that can be a starting point.
