The Fire: I wake up to alarms, and sirens. I can hardly breathe, and there is a vague smell. Smoke. My house is on fire. I jump up out of bed and I get on the floor and start to crawl my way toward my bedroom door exit. It seems like forever before I reach the door. I’m coughing and I’m gagging. I can’t breathe at all. My eyes go foggy, and maybe it’s because of all the smoke, but there is also another possibility. I'm losing oxygen. I can’t crawl anymore. My knees hurt and I need to get out of here as soon as possible. I stand up, and run. My heart is racing and I’m gasping for air. I can feel my legs starting to go weak. I can’t stop now, I have to keep going. I need to. I feel my eyes start closing, and my vision is fading more than before. I see the exit to my house, I’m almost there. I black out. Every fiber of my body aches. I’m cold, shockingly cold. I can’t open my eyes. I feel pressure on my chest. 1, 2, 3. And it stops. 1, 2, 3. And it stops once more. This continued to happen for what feels like hours. Every moment I would be able to catch a break, the pressure started again. All as my body was making small movements no matter how much I just wanted to lie still. Everything still hurts, wherever it is that I am? It just feels as though it's spinning 200mph, I’m so dizzy it hurts. There would be a calm period where everything felt gentle and peaceful like I'm drifting off to sleep. Then it would happen again. I started to see things like people running through the door, but then I would pass out and still be stuck here with the door still locked. I started to lose hope. The lack of oxygen was getting to my head. My lungs started to feel like they were burning away from all the smoke I was inhaling. I had been lost in the room, I couldn't see anything around the room anymore, not even the door. I had no choice but to give up. Then I heard a knocking, I started to steam as loud as I could, then I heard walking. I felt hands wrap around my arms as I was dragged out of the room, then I had lost consciousness. I woke up several hours later in a hospital where I found out that I had left a candle lit in my room and that is what started the fire.
