I want to make simple stuff but I'm not really into design, maybe I'm going into the wrong field? Maybe something like Universal Paperclips style websites.. Just simple.

I would say finish CSS first and then move on to JS. If you learn JS right in the middle of learning CSS and decide to go back to CSS, you will be confused as to which is what.
