Lars:

Which is a correct classification for this triangle? A) obtuse triangle B) acute triangle C) equiangular triangle D) right triangle I think it's obtuse but someone said it's acute and idk, their reasoning didn't seem valid (Screenshot attached)

solodive:

Probably acute becuase of the angle, im not 100 percent sure tho

Okay thank you both

solodive:

yup just remember obtuse triangles are usually wider than acute

mxddi3:

It wouldn't be acute. If it were an acute triangle, all angles would be less than 90 degrees. If we add 59 and 31, we get 90. that means our last angle is NOT acute, meaning it isn't an acute triangle.

mxddi3:

We also know it isn't equiangular because all of our angles are not the same. This leaves us with obtuse and right. Now looking at the fact the missing angle is going to be 90 (this is because a triangle is 180 degrees and 59+31=90 and 180-90=90) and 90 degrees makes a right triangle, therefore, I'd have to say this is a right triangle.

Oh okay that makes sense, I knew it wasn't acute. Thank you for explaining

ruined my confidence in life

mxddi3:

Remember that an obtuse triangle is one that has an angle that is larger than 90 degrees as well, just to clarify why your original wasn't correct. Good luck (:
