prettygirl15:

How did the rapid industrialization of the North affect the national economy in the early- and mid-1800s? Economic growth slowed throughout the country due to increased competition with European countries. The national government considered a return to mercantilism and the acquisition of foreign colonies. Southern states attempted to industrialize in order to compete with Northern manufacturers. The economies of the North and South became increasingly dependent on the other for economic growth.
