Are you allowed to @ whoever you want or do you have to know them and actually ask before inviting them

For tagging people to a question? No, you don’t have to know them. However, site rules and common courtesy still apply.

- mass-tagging is not allowed. (Tagging large numbers of people to a question). Ideally you should only tag people who you genuinely think may be able to answer the question.

- spam-tagging (tagging the same person many times at once) is also not allowed. Give them a bit to decide whether they want to help.

- if someone asks you not to tag them please respect that.
