Nightmoon:

What are Greek and Latin roots? How can you use roots as clues to the meanings of words?

Marlin24k:

Did you try looking it up?

Yes but it gave no info.

A lot of words in English come from Greek and Latin. Commonly, words are made by taking a Greek or Latin root and adding appropriate prefixes or suffixes to alter their part of speech or meaning. For example, “aqua” means water, so if a word has the root aqua then you can infer the word probably has something to do with water, ex: aquarium Here’s a reference with common Greek and Latin roots. https://www.readingrockets.org/article/root-words-roots-and-affixes
