The general quadratic equation is \[a x^{2}+bx+c=0\] Here, we have \[x^{2}-4x+3=0\] Therefore, \[a=1\] \ and \[c=3\] The solution is \[x=\frac{ -b \pm \sqrt{b^{2}-4ac} }{ 2a }\] Apply the formula and you'll get the 2 solutions.
