The voting rights act was significant to the civil rights movement because of this act there were many marches for equality where some people faced imprisonment. African Americans slowly began to gain their voting rights. African Americans no longer had to do poll taxes, literacy tests, or other bureaucratic impediments in order to vote, which allowed the civil rights movement to enable more people to have the right to vote, including African Americans.
