where is it?
SPEAK ESSAY: Kimberly Saavedra period 5. Was melinda really raped? Throughout the novel speak its all about communication and silence, it is developed through being raped at a party, losing friends from busting a party. And not speaking up for herself. Memory and trauma is developed through the party when melinda went to a party and she got raped she wanted to scream but she was weak from being drunk. She couldnt really do anything until she can finally escape. “I should probably tell someone to get it over with.Let it out, blur it out”. “No I DON’T WANT TO!, but I can't spit it out”. Melinda wants to tell people that she got raped but she does not have the guts to tell people, she does not want to be silent anymore, she is scared to speak up or herself. Loneliness and depression is developed through the school. “The kids behind me laugh so loud I know they are laughing about me”. While at school the kids start laughing at Melinda because they recognize her.Everyone like her ex- best friend stares at her as she walks and Melinda has no one to sit with at lunch, so when she found the abandoned janitor room that was her spot from there on, she would always go there during lunch and she put some of her stuff in the room to make it less gross. Melinda was scared to talk to her friends because she already knew they were not gonna talk to her since she had busted the party and she also couldn't tell them why she did that because she was still traumatized and she knew they were not gonna believe her and she was only saying that as an excuse. “I wonder how long it takes to ride a bus in arizona?” Melinda does not really like anything and she will if she finally speaks up and is not scared to try new things, move on but that's just keeping her away from all the fun stuff she can do. In the end of the book Melinda finally speaks up for herself and she is free from being silent. The novel's depiction of all themes related to Melinda's trauma teaches us to never feel like you can't tell people anything like Melinda's situation and to not sneak out without telling someone where you're heading to because the same thing can happen to you like it happened to Melinda and even worse. So, next time you should think twice about what you are going to do and think about what could and can happen. Are you going to get hurt?, are you going to not get hurt? Do you feel comfortable going somewhere or doing something?. At the end of the story melinda was raped and she just asked herself because she didnt believe it herself since it happened all so fast and also because people were treating her differently. But finally melinda learned to speak up for herself and that made a big difference in her life not only she does not have to be silent anymore, she learned other people were being being harassed by Andy evans and she was not the only one so it made her feel not alone and also her friends especially rachelle is going to know that she didnt just the party. She did it for a reason and everyone hopefully will start to reunite with Melinda and hopefully as well learn something from Melinda to not get drunk and to not go to a house party or any party without supervision by an adult.
